The faculty and staff at Ocean View Christian Academy are thrilled to be recognized for the outstanding academic and co-curricular programs offered at OVCA. To be named in the Newsweek Top 5,000 STEM schools for 2020 is certainly an honor, especially when you consider that of the over 37,000 public and private high schools in America, OVCA was ranked in the top 7% of the country. Furthermore, of the high schools recognized in the greater San Diego county area, OVCA is the only school in the Sweetwater Union High School District to make the list (This includes all public, charter, and private schools.)
Although we are excited and humbled by this recognition, Galatians 1:10 speaks to why we do what we do at OVCA. We do not seek the approval of man, our goal is make Christ known and to glorify Him through our efforts.

America is a nation of entrepreneurs and innovators, and our economic vitality and national security depend on our sustaining that vibrant culture. Science, technology, engineering, mathematics—these are the fields in which our children need to be fluent. The STEM skills that only specialists have today will be expected of virtually everyone in the American workforce tomorrow. Children are natural STEM students. They love to explore the properties of sand and water, to build towers (and knock them down), to count their Halloween candy or track sports statistics. We need to make sure that innate drive, curiosity and creativity aren't lost along the way. That's why Newsweek, with its long history of reporting on scientific breakthroughs, technological revolutions and societal challenges, partnered with STEM.org to rank America's Best STEM High Schools. We found schools in every region of the country that offer skilled teachers who keep up with developments in these fields and who create dynamic learning environments to engage their students. With high-profile institutions in big urban areas and small but strong programs across the nation, America's future in science, technology, engineering and mathematics is in good hands. Nancy Cooper Newsweek Global Editor in Chief Note: The top 5,000 schools were curated from STEM.org Educational Research™ (SER) using a proprietary scoring logic that took into consideration a broad set of quantitative and qualitative data inputs collected from Q2 2015–Q3 2019. The purpose was to determine which primary/secondary institutions in America best offer students experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)—as defined by the Congressional Research Service—while preparing them for post‐secondary outcomes. Additional factors, including affluence and median household income, were taken into consideration in compiling the rankings.
