Does OVCA offer a rigorous academic program?
As a college preparatory academy, we strive to provide the highest level of academic achievement as possible for each student. Learning happens at a higher level and our students perform on average much higher than local and state standards. Our program charts a 100% UC approved tract. Our students have earned an average of over $43,000 per graduate over the last 3 graduating classes. Does OVCA offer college counseling services?
Planning for college takes time, knowledge, and experience to be done effectively. In public schools the guidance counselor is required to meet with a student one time in their 4 years of high school. At OVCA, our college guidance counselor meets with high school students multiple times per month and offers college-planning assistance to families with students of all ages. From preparation, testing, college selection, to the application process, or financing, we are here to help!

What curriculum does OVCA use?
We are very selective when it comes to the curriculum we choose. First, it must reinforce our spiritual, Christ-centered values, and second, it must represent the best scholarship and pedagogy available. Therefore we use an assortment of curriculum based on our unique needs. Our elementary classes are based upon the A Beka Book curriculum and our middle and high school classes use an array of curriculum from A Beka to Bob Jones University Press, among others. In some cases we even publish our own curriculum.
Does OVCA have a dress code policy?
We have dress guidelines that keep students looking their best for success without being too overwhelmed. Monday through Thursdays are standard school dress code days and Fridays are always spirit wear days. With your paid registration, each student will receive one spirit wear shirt to wear on Fridays with jeans!
Although we do not require families to purchase at a particular vendor, we have two Preferred Vendors for school clothes. When you shop at these Preferred Vendors, you help support OVCA. These vendors return a portion of their proceeds to OVCA to help support our programs.

Is there a parent organization at OVCA?
Providing a quality education is important. However, it is also important to be involved in your child’s education. Parents in Action provides a network of information and cooperation. Through this group, parents and families can volunteer for everything from lunch duty to basketball games, from fundraisers to special events. At OVCA, having active families is one way we provide a warm environment and empower parents to be involved in the education process.
Does OVCA have community service and/or service learning requirements?
At OVCA, we believe that we are never more like Jesus than when we are serving others. That said, we value building Christ-like character through service learning. This includes community service requirements for middle through high school as well as opportunities to serve others through student government hosted events, such as Ronald McDonald House, Angel Tree, peer tutoring, and others.

What standardized tests are offered at OVCA?
At Ocean View Christian Academy, a quality college preparatory education does not just focus on what is taught today, but what students will face tomorrow. One of the ways we prepare our students and adjust our aim as an educational institution is through standardized testing and a proactive college readiness program. These two tools enable us to approach the ever changing world of tomorrow on the cutting edge of academics and preparation.

Does OVCA offer a student government organization?
ASB stands for Associated Student Body and is our student government organization. The ASB serves as the liaison between the school administration and the student body. The purpose of the ASB is to be the voice of the students as well as assisting with the planning of student activities, events, fall retreat, community service projects, etc. We believe ASB is an important step in developing leadership skills that will help prepare our students for college and beyond.
ASB is made up of elected offices (executive officers and representatives), as well as voluntary members who meet the membership requirements. Positions are filled annually with executive offices filled in the spring for the following year. Representative positions are filled in the beginning of each school year. ASB REQUIREMENTS Students running for ASB must maintain a 3.0 grade point average with no D’s or F’s (academic and citizenship), and be a positive role model to your peers inside and outside of the classroom. For more information please contact the ASB Faculty Advisor, or by clicking here. |

Does OVCA offer travel opportunities for students to learn off-campus?
Trips are an important of learning at OVCA. Students begin the experience of immersive learning through field trips in K-5th grades. Each class takes a minimum of one field trip per year. Students across our elementary look forward to our annual 6th grade trip which takes students anywhere from the coastal islands of southern California to the historic streets of Washington D.C.
Throughout 7th to 11th grade, students are exposed to a number of opportunities for immersive learning experiences; from regional science competitions and local fine arts performances, to museums and overnight college survey trips. The capstone immersive learning experience at OVCA is our "Senior Trip" where students find themselves immersed in another culture, learning and serving along side one another. Wherever the destination, whether it be a farm in National City, Legoland, The Fleet Science Center, a Schooner on the bay, or half way around the world, the objective is always to expose our students to new ideas and experiences, challenging them to think beyond the walls of their classroom and culture to learn something in a new and memorable way. We believe this is a key aspect of learning to see the world the way God sees the world. For more information on immersive learning, please contact our school office by clicking here. |
